Gary Faryon has worked for some of Canada’s most successful and iconic brands during their most dominant period over the last 35 years. His business experience stems from multiple Start-Ups, to NGO’s, to Co-Operatives to large Corporations, and WeBC is delighted to welcome him as a volunteer Mentor in our One-to-One Mentoring Program!
Gary was born and raised in Victoria into an entrepreneurial family and, growing up, he assisted his Father who owned a chain of drug stores. After going through HBC’s management training program, Gary went through a series of what he calls ‘adventures,’ becoming a flight attendant, a park ranger, a gemologist, and founder of a tech startup before returning to HBC, this time in Toronto.
Gary eventually served 18-years as Chief Operating Officer at Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC), where he achieved significant multi-channel growth from five “Bricks and Mortar” stores to 22+ stores and one of Canada’s best omnichannel eCommerce programs.
Gary has an immense love for retail as well as a passion for designing cultures and systems that deliver a great customer experience. Now retired, Gary is focused on enjoying life and sharing his extensive and varied experience with occasional consulting work. He currently supports a variety of clients with GLG Business Consulting of New York.
