Teresa Polson

The opening of Black 2 Blond Salonspa in 2003 in Vancouver was a dream come true for entrepreneur Teresa Polson. Passionate about providing eco-friendly products to her clients, in 2012 she decided to carry La Biosthetique, a high-quality product line from France. She felt that La Biosthetique shared similar values of providing excellent service to clients and employee engagement and success. Black 2 Blond Salonspa is La Biosthetique’s 9th international academy and the first in North America.

Q&A: Teresa’s Journey

Q. What services has WeBC provided you and how have these services helped you?

A. With a WeBC loan, we were able to renovate and become a La Biosthetique flagship and international academy. WeBC was diligent in dealing with our loan request and the efficient processes helped us immensely.

Q. What inspired you to take the leap and start your own business?

A. I am inspired by my desire to help others. My business allowed me to provide exceptional service to my clients and also take care of my staff. Though I started my business with partners, I finally bought out my last partner in 2012. Being the sole owner, I could focus on my business priorities of providing excellent client care, providing an eco-friendly product line and creating a great work team.

Q. What’s the biggest lesson you learned when starting your business?

A. I have learned that you cannot be a success just by yourself. My business has been made possible by the support of my husband, staff, clients and several organizations including WeBC, RBC and La Biosthetique.

Q. What is your greatest strength as an entrepreneur?

A. My vision! I can see where I want to take my business and I can inspire those around me to take us there.

Q. What personal lessons have you learned as an entrepreneur?

A. I have learned to identify my weaknesses. I am a bit blunt and intense. So, I depend on my team to temper me and do the things I am not good at.

Q. What are your goals for the business?

A. I want to build strong client relationships and empower my employees. I am also working towards nurturing relationships with suppliers creating mutual value. I want to build my business as a brand that cares primarily for its clients and is a great place to work.
