The story of Amanda Chay’s business The Natural Path Clinic Inc. began with her desire to pursue a profession that would combine her love of medicine, psychology, and nature. Today, she is living her dream. After completing her Naturopathic Medical degree, she found an opportunity to buy a long existing Naturopathic Medicine practice in the West Kootenay region.
As a licensed Naturopathic Physician, she offers a holistic form of healthcare with the goal of starting patients with the least invasive treatments first and moving to pharmaceuticals only if necessary. She is also trained in herbal medicine, acupuncture and nutrition.
Q. What services has Women’s Enterprise Centre provided you and how have these services helped you?
A. Women’s Enterprise Centre provided me with funds which helped me start my business. My education was extremely expensive and it was difficult to find a loan from a bank with my large debt. My WEC business advisor gave me excellent financial advice and really helped me with my budget and financial spreadsheet. I look forward to seeking out more business advice in the future.
Q. What inspired you to take the leap and start your own business?
A. I love being close to the mountains but it was difficult to find an associate position because there is usually only one ND in each mountain town. I decided to take the leap and start my own business when the opportunity to buy an existing practice was presented to me.
Q. What are your goals for the business?
A. My goal is to have a successful practice that helps as many people as I can. I truly believe the key to health and happiness is balance, and I want to help patients achieve this in their lives.
Q. What is your greatest strength as an entrepreneur?
A. I am always open to new ideas. In business, things never go exactly as per the expectation. Being too rigid can cause a lot of unnecessary grief. Being open has allowed me to discover new and better experiences and help my clients more.
Q. What personal lessons have you learned as an entrepreneur?
A. You cannot do it all alone and asking for help does not make one incompetent. People truly want to help you succeed. I look forward to being able to help other entrepreneurs starting out in the future.
