[MEDIA RELEASE] WeBC Applauds Federal Investment to Advance Women’s Economic Security and Leadership

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 30, 2025 — WeBC celebrates the federal government’s announcement of over half a billion dollars in Budget 2025 to support women, gender-diverse Canadians, and 2SLGBTQI+ communities. This significant investment marks a step toward building a more inclusive and resilient economy, recognizing that Canada’s strength lies in the full and equal participation of everyone.
We are especially encouraged by the $382.5 million commitment over five years, beginning in 2026-27, with $76.5 million in ongoing funding, to revitalize and stabilize efforts to advance women’s equality. This includes targeted support through the Women’s Economic and Leadership Opportunities Fund, which will improve economic security and expand leadership pathways for women and girls across the country.
We commend the Government of Canada for recognizing that the strongest economy in the G7 must include everyone. These investments will help dismantle barriers and ensure that women and gender-diverse Canadians have the opportunities to thrive, unlocking their potential.
“By investing in women’s economic security and leadership, the government is unlocking the full potential of our country,” said Shauna Harper, CEO of WeBC. “Systemic barriers to accessing capital continue to limit women-owned businesses. This funding is a vital step toward removing those barriers and unleashing Canada’s economic strength through inclusive growth.”
Stable, predictable funding like this enables multi-year projects and partnerships to continue to drive systemic change by reforming institutional policies and practices that disadvantage women and gender-diverse people. It also strengthens Canada’s economy by fostering inclusive growth that fuels entrepreneurship, innovation, and job creation, making our country more resilient and competitive.
